Hand engraved and fully hallmarked, this pendant is made at Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter and makes an exceptional gift for any Freemason — ready to wear on a chain, watch fob, or bracelet.

  • Hand engraved finish
  • Foldable design: plumb rule when closed, Square & Compass when open

Hi brothers,

Greetings from Australia!

I've recently ordered this pendant and it had just arrived yesterday. I am sorry to be writing this email, but I must say, it is quite disappointing... and this is not unjustified, there are a few points:

1. The feel: The pendant feels small, yet very flimsy made. The engravings are very surfaced and the surface feels almost smooth, which is a sign that the pattern will easily dissappear in the nearest decade. You can also see tiny missing gaps in the engravings, which makes you question whether it was actually done by hand, as you imagine that a jeweler would actually connect all the lines and complete the patter.

2. Construction: Listed in description, you say that the pendants "effortlessly holds form in both opened and closed positions", that's not true. When opened: the pendant goes into a "half-opened" position as soon as you move your finger away. And it doesn't stay formed. The pins that hold the pieces of the Square and Compasses together are very loose, and hence why the construction is very weak and the pendant doesn't hold shape.

3. The price: I was genuinely excited to buy this, I was checking for delivery updates everyday, as this is a gift I bought for myself for being Raised recently. $300 AUD for a small silver pendant is a lot of money. And I would like to say that this is a piece of heritage that I would like to one day pass down to my children - but I can't. As for it's price: it feels and is built very cheaply. Not something that you can particularly call an "heirloom".

I am not writing this to question the good-faith of your business, as I know you have an established brand among and already small number of masonic jewelers. Yet I want to support you and raise this issue as it is extremely disappointing having such high expectations of a brand, and these expectations being completely crumbled. For $300, the pendant arrived in a tiny cardboard box pinned into a piece of plastic foam, the box was wrapped in a piece of bubble wrap and sticky tape. Very, very saddening experience.

I can only hope that this email may be used to improve your business, because we all know that there are brothers that will just take it and not voice their concerns.

I wish you a great rest of your day.

Best regards,
V
