The Orange Order is a Protestant fraternal organisation founded in Northern Ireland in 1795. Named after William of Orange, it is one of the oldest and largest Protestant fraternal organisations in the world, with lodges across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and beyond. Members are known as Orangemen, and the Order is built around the values of loyalty, brotherhood, and the Protestant faith.
The Order commemorates the victory of William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, and its members wear distinctive regalia and jewellery as symbols of their membership and degree within the Order. The 2½ degree is one of the most recognised marks of the Orange Order, representing a significant level of commitment and brotherhood.
